Robby Grant is a Memphis indie rock icon. I suspect Robby will find that description a bit jarring, but it’s true. For the past twenty years, Robby has been one of rock music’s backbones in the city that first gave it life. I have enjoyed Robby’s music in every form that it’s taken, from his hip-hop and funk influenced early days with Big Ass Truck to his consistently surprising and even delicate bedroom recordings with Vending Machine.
This is the first time Robby and I have ever spoken; despite the fact that I’ve seen and heard him sing and play guitar dozens and dozens of times. It was a little thrill for me even if it betrays the original idea for the show.

He was generous with his time and thoughtful. Robby even broke a little bit of news about a possible Big Ass Truck reunion later this year.
If you haven’t already, you should check out Robby’s solo project Vending Machine and his collaboration with River City Tanlines front woman Alicja Trout, MouseRocket.
Thanks, as always, to my homie Jackie for the great pictures.
Thanks for listening.
